About fiber communication Communication via fiber optic cable is ideal in harsh industrial environments because it is totally immune to electrical interference. Also ground potential differences between e.g. buildings is not a problem, as it transmit light, not electricity. The combination with high speed over long distances is also an advantage to normal copper cable. The LR fiber products provide connectivity for free topology twisted pair LonWorks networks utilizing a dual fiber optic media. The products range from simple point to point phys-ical layer repeaters/converters to more advanced redundant ring topology routers using multi or single mode fibers. The wide range of products enable the user to select the most cost effective solution for the specific application. With two or more LR-01 units, a 78 kbit/s physical repeater link may be established between two or more LonWorks network segments. The LR-01 units perform a complete transparent conversion to and from the fiber optic media, which facilitates the installation procedure by eliminating the need for any additional network addressing when con-necting existing LonWorks networks. The best performance will be obtained using the LR-11 1.25 Mbit/s routers. Especially for long haul applications or applications requiring many units, the use of LR-11 routers is recommended. The routers are based on the RTR-10 module from Echelon®. The advantages of using LR-11 routers are high-speed backbone channel, timing parameters optimized for fiber optic media and network segmentation for better performance. Back to Products
